Course Overview
Pro Board® Accredited Certification Course Completion Process
FireWise provides training for the NFPA 1033 Standard Professional Qualification for Fire Investigators. The College of the Rockies (COTR) provides Pro Board® accredited certification to this training standard.
Part One: FIOC Level I
- Online knowledge-based curriculum
- Online Level I exam
Part Two: FIOC Level II
Upon successful completion of Part One, students can progress to FIOC Level II. This phase includes a virtual fire investigation using 360-degree video technology, along with several assignments:
- Answering written questions
- Conducting a peer review of a technical fire report
- Writing a technical fire investigation report based on the investigation using 360-degree technology
- Preparing a PowerPoint presentation to showcase their findings
Once all assignments are completed, they are uploaded to the FireWise Learning Academy. After approval, FireWise will notify COTR that the student is ready for evaluation. COTR will then contact the student via email.
Evaluation
COTR will schedule an online meeting in which the students will present their findings using the PowerPoint presentation created in Level II. The presentation will be shared on-screen.
A written exam will be administered by an assigned proctor and returned to the evaluator for review.
Upon successfully completing all requirements for both Level I and Level II and passing the COTR evaluation, the student will receive a Pro Board® accredited certificate for Professional Qualification NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator from COTR.
